Since its establishment, the Macao Cultural and Creative Industry Promotion Association (CCIP) has been committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation between local artists and the international art community. Among them, the “Macao Art Flow” programme, as an important cultural exchange project, provides opportunities for Macau artists to interact with people from all over the world. In 2024, as the session I of "Macao Art Flow 2024" : "Internal and external Re-creation" - The “Germany Contermporary Art Duo Exhibition by Ng Man Wai x Catherine Cheong” has chosen Berlin, an important center for the development of contemporary art.
The central idea of this exhibition is "La Reprise", one of the most famous works by Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard. Many of the works in exhibition are based on existing external objects, exploring, re-creating, and redeveloping with the inner self as the focal point. "Internal and external" represents the interweaving of an individual's inner and external world, while "reproduction" presents artists' re-exploration and presentation of emotions and cultural memories.
From the perspective of Socrates and Plato, through a form of spiritual asceticism, individuals are enabled to recognize themselves by understanding ideas. However, memories are about searching for the past, completely turning towards the past, while restoration is about searching for the past and moving towards the future in a new concrete form. True restoration requires personal possession, which is a form of re-creation.
